About Mr. Johnson

 Hello my name is Robert (Bob) Johnson and I am the 7-12 STS (Skilled & Technical Science) Instructor and golf coach at South Platte Public Schools.  I have been employed at South Platte since 1992.  I live in Big Springs, NE along with my wife Cyndi.  We have two sons, Brandon and Colby and two daughters-in-law, Molly and Jessamyn.  My hobbies are hunting, fishing, gardening and playing golf.  

Skilled and Technical Science---Course Descriptions:

 7th Grade: Exploring Skilled and Technical Sciences

 In this course students will explore fundamentals in Skilled and Technical Sciences at the 7th grade level. Course Standards : Student will understand and accurately apply measurement. Students will know and model safe lab procedures and techniques. Students will be introduced to technical communications.Students will experience skills needed to complete a project. Student will explore career opportunities.
8th Grade: Exploring Skilled and Technical Sciences

 In this course students will explore fundamentals in Skilled and Technical Sciences at the 8th grade level. Course Standards : Student will understand and accurately apply measurement. Students will know and model safe lab procedures and techniques. Students will be introduced to technical communications.Students will recognize material types and properties.Students will demonstrate material processing.Students will select tools for the correct operation.Student will explore career opportunities.
Woods I: Intro. To the Built Environment 

This course provides the skills and technical knowledge for a beginning student in areas of industry, safety, materials, equipment and process understanding. The student will develop awareness of Construction, Design & Drafting and Manufacturing areas. This course serves as an introductory course to the Manufacturing, Drafting & Design and Construction courses offered. This is a first semester course.
Woods II: Manufacturing-Woods 

This a second phase of the beginning level course that introduces the student to basic knowledge and skills that are a foundation to manufacturing. Safety, measuring, planning and production processes will be covered. This is a second semester course. Woods I (Intro. To the Built Environment  ) is a prerequisite for this course.
Advanced  Woods: Advanced Fabrication and Manufacturing

 A study of the processes used by industry to manufacture consumer products, safety, measurements, planning, machining, fabrication processes and finish processes will be included. Career opportunities will also be explored. This will be a full year course. Woods I (Intro. To the Built Environment ) and Woods II (Manufacturing-Woods) are  prerequisites for this course.

Construction I: Principles of Construction Technology 

This course provides the skills and technical knowledge for a beginning student in areas of industry, safety, materials, equipment and process understanding. The student will develop awareness of Construction, Design & Drafting and Manufacturing areas. This course serves as an introductory course to the Manufacturing, Drafting & Design and Construction courses offered. Woods I (Intro. To the Built Environment  ) is a prerequisite for this course. Construction II: Advanced Construction Technology 

This course is designed for a student considering a career as a construction professional. Technical skills are combined with planning and management topics to provide the student with an understanding of all stages of a project. This course explores opportunities and career pathways within the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, and walks the student through the planning, execution and reporting of a project. Students will master project setup (estimating, scheduling and planning) safety awareness, applying construction materials and techniques and developing their own possible career goals. This is a second semester course. Woods I (Intro. To the Built Environment ) and Construction I (Principles of Construction Technology) are  prerequisites for this course.

STS/Technology-HS: Skilled and Technical Sciences 

 Students will understand how the use of math, science and technology are used to solve everyday problems. They will demonstrate competency by using "activity oriented" instruction units that relate technology to students' daily lives.
