I was born and raised in Iowa. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1985 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. I started teachin in Brule in 1994 at 4th grade. Sine then I have taught Title 1, 2/3 combination, and 2nd grade.
My husband is Pat Vlasin, we live in Grant, and have one daughter, McKayla. Pat runs an insurance company in Grant.
The smallness of the school, all of the staff, one on one with students, and the family-like atmosphere is what I most enjoy about South Platte School.

Twas the night before school startedWhen all through the town
The parents were cheering,It was a riotous sound.
By eight, the kids were washed
And tucked in bed
When memories of homework
Filled them with dread.
New pencils, new folders, new notebooks, too,
New teachers, new friends, the anxiety grew.
The parents just giggled when they heard of this fright
And shouted upstairs, "GO TO BED, its A SCHOOL NIGHT!"
